How We Test
Sleep.report is changing hands and changing standards. This page documents what you can expect from new content here, and what we are working through with the inherited archive.
The team
Sleep.report is run by Henry Crawford, a mattress veteran with two decades of experience in publishing, ecommerce, and search. The site was acquired in 2024 from a previous publisher. Some content predates that acquisition. More on that below.
For new mattress reviews and buying-guide updates, we work with sleep coaches, certified sleep science specialists, and people who – more importantly – sleep on the products in their actual bedrooms before writing about them.
What new reviews look like
Going forward, every new product review on this site is hands-on. That means:
- The product is in someone’s house, on a real bed, used as designed.
- The review is written after at least two weeks of nightly use – not after a “first impression” weekend.
- We disclose if the product was sent free, purchased ourselves, or borrowed.
- We do not accept paid placements. Brands that offer to pay for a positive review get a polite no.
If a review here was written before this standard was in place, it shows a “Last updated” date earlier than the date on this policy. We are working through the legacy archive systematically. Where a legacy review still holds up, we are updating it. Where it does not, we are either rewriting from scratch or removing it.
Affiliate links in plain English
Most product links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the retailer pays us a small commission. The price you pay does not change.
Three things this means and three things it does not.
It means:
- We get paid when you buy.
- We have a financial reason to want our recommendations to actually help you – because that is how trust gets built and how sites stop existing if they break it.
- We test affiliate programs and drop ones that consistently put us in front of bad customer experiences.
It does not mean:
- A product gets ranked higher because the commission is bigger.
- A product gets reviewed because the brand asked us to.
- A negative review gets softened because the brand has an affiliate program.
If you would rather not use an affiliate link, search the brand directly. The recommendation does not change.
When we update content
We update individual reviews when:
- The product is reformulated – new foam supplier, new cover, new ownership group.
- The price tier shifts meaningfully.
- A claim in the original review is no longer accurate.
- A reader writes us with a substantive correction.
Buying guides get refreshed quarterly at a minimum. The “Last updated” stamp at the top of each post is an honest one – it changes only when the content changes, not when we want to look fresh.
Corrections and contact
If you catch us in an error – a spec listed wrong, a brand misnamed, a claim that is no longer true, a competitor we should have included – email [email protected]. Specifics get to the queue faster than vague gripes.
Substantive corrections get an “Updated” line in the post itself, not just a quiet edit.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell our email list.
- We do not accept guest posts. (If you have a pitch, write the post on your own site instead.)
- We do not rank products we have not seen, used, or had a credible firsthand source on.
- We do not make medical claims. We are not doctors. If sleep is causing you real problems, see one.
